Born from a family of Irish decent, Benjamin Jacobsen grew up in the Seattle, Washington area which is without a doubt one of the most multicultural cities in the United States. His circle of friends include people from many different races, and cultures, creeds, and religions. It is this exposure which lends to the unique vision and voice that allows Benjamin's work to be enjoyed by an audience of an multicolored spectrum.
Benjamin was drawn to film making in high school when he watched the classic, "To Kill A Mockingbird" in English class. He was amazed at the power of the writing and the simplicity of the visuals. He has been quoted many times as saying, "I was a fan of movies before Gregory Peck's monologue in the court room started, I wanted to devote my life to film making when it ended". and since then he has made just about every day of his life related in someway to achieving his dream of becoming a successful film maker. Including his personal edict to himself to spend a good part of each day creating something or writing something.
Benjamin studied film in the Seattle area but he attests his true education of film to simply watching thousands and thousands of films and listening to Q & A's about them, DVD commentary, and everything else related to the film.
He founded Winter Tree Pictures in 2008 with his friend, Lou Zaldivar as a springboard to making a mark on the independent film scene. He has worked on the concept of a music video for Winter Tree and served as editor and dialogue writer for another Winter Tree short. His personal accomplishments include writing his first feature length screenplay called "Cannon Beach" which has been described by readers as, ".., it's like Kevin Smith and Judd Apatow teamed up on a road trip movie."
